In honor of #NationalInternDay, I figured now would be the perfect time to introduce myself! My name is Danielle Vito, and I was awarded the highly coveted position as The Points Pups intern at The Points Guy. I’ve been following TPG for about two years now, and am so excited to be part of the team.
With a passion for social media, travel and photography, I knew I’d be the perfect candidate for the position. I’m also a huge dog lover, but my building does not allow animals. I figured cats are pretty quiet, so I smuggled in the cutest little cat named Milton. Hopefully, my landlord isn’t reading this.
I’m currently doing an online master’s program through Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management. I’m pursuing a master’s degree in Travel and Tourism Management. (My family always jokes that I major in taking vacations.) I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Marketing and Management, from the University at Albany.
I answered a few questions below so the readers could get to know me better. Here we go!
What is your favorite city that you’ve traveled to so far?
In March, I traveled to Cape Town, South Africa, for a photography workshop held by Forbes’ number two-rated travel influencer of 2017, The Blonde Abroad. (Can you guess who number one is? Hint: He likes points and caviar.) I greatly improved my travel photography skills and had the best subjects to practice on. I loved photographing the penguins at Boulders Beach and all the safari animals at the game reserve we stayed at. The sunsets were incredible, the landscapes were stunning and I was able to clearly see the Milky Way for the first time — much better than the three stars I can see from New York. I hiked up to the top of Lion’s Head for sunrise, paraglided off of Signal Hill and drank lots of wine in Stellenbosch. #Takemeback
What’s been your craziest travel experience?
After I graduated from Albany in 2014, I was hired to work on an app called Yik Yak (RIP), which was very popular with college students at the time. I was a part of their “Ride The Yak” Fall Campus Tour and I traveled to 35 different college campuses along the West Coast to market the app. The tour started in Washington and went all through Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona. I lived on a tour bus, just as the rock stars do, for 83 days. At least my bunk was cozy!
What’s been your best points redemption so far?
I HIGHLY recommend opening some new rewards credit cards when wedding planning. Last September, I got married to my high school sweetheart, whom I’ve been dating since I was 15 years old. For our honeymoon, we decided to go to French Polynesia and visit Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora. French Polynesia is super expensive but I knew we would be able to earn some great sign-up bonuses with all of the big wedding purchases.
I don’t remember specific point amounts, but I basically was able to cover all my hotel nights except a stay at the Intercontinental Bora Bora Thlasso Spa. (The over-the-water bungalows there are life-changing.) I can tell you that we stayed at the Le Meridien Tahiti for two nights and The Intercontinental Moorea for three nights all on points. We also got upgraded in Moorea to a gorgeous beach bungalow. In addition to that, we stayed in San Francisco and Los Angeles on both ends of the trip to break up the flights to and from New York (which of course I covered with my Delta SkyMiles). We stayed at the Sheraton Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco for two nights and the Le Meridien Del Fina Santa Monica for three nights all on points.
What’s next on your travel bucket list?
As you can imagine, my travel bucket list is very long. My dream vacation is to hop around Southeast Asia. I’ve also been wanting to go to Munich, Germany, for quite some time. I’ve been the marketing manager at a German beer hall for almost three years, and I know way too much about Oktoberfest and German traditions for someone who has never been there before. Maybe someone will send me? *wink*
Who’s your favorite points pup?
I love all the pups but my buddy for the summer is Swisher. I’ll be exploring with him and reviewing pet-friendly hotels along the way. I love how he’s smaller and like the little brother of the group. Things could change, though, since you might be seeing a new addition to the Points Pups soon. Stay tuned.
What’s a fun fact we should know?
My go-to fun fact was always that I can lick my elbow. It’s a great one because everyone in the room proceeds to try licking their own elbow (go ahead). However, I did recently compete on a nationally-televised game show so I guess that’s pretty fun. Another fun fact (I’m full of fun) is that two years ago I was a seat filler at the MTV VMAs and was caught on TV dancing next to Beyoncé. Cosmo was live reporting the show and published an article about me captioned, “This Girl Dancing Next to Beyoncé Performing at the VMAs Is All Of Us.” After the show, I emailed the editor at Cosmo my own article about my experience as a seat filler and they decided to publish it. The article went viral and was featured on their Snapchat Discover Story.
