Coffee addicts, get ready to shoot right to top-tier Starbucks status. For one day only, Starbucks is targeting select Starbucks Rewards members to earn its highest tier of status after just one purchase.

On Tuesday, September 18, select Starbucks Rewards members can earn Gold status with the program after completing just one purchase. Targeted members will see the offer when they open the Starbucks mobile app — there's no direct link to register.

In order for the purchase to be eligible, it must be made with your registered Starbucks Card or by downloading the Starbucks app and purchasing with your phone. In addition, you must also be a Starbucks Rewards member. Alcohol and Starbucks Card purchases are not eligible for this offer.

Gold status with Starbucks normally requires that you earn 300 stars — each dollar spent at Starbucks is two stars, so you would need to spend $150 in order to get to the minimum threshold. Green members, which is the entry level of status, get a free birthday reward, the ability to order ahead, free in-store refills, access to member events and the ability to pay by phone. Gold status, however, gives you those perks as well as monthly double-star days, a personalized gold card and a reward for every 125 stars.

Also keep in mind that American Express is running an Offer with Starbucks to get up to 15% off every purchase, up to $5.

This isn’t the first time Starbucks has offered such a promotion — in fact, it does so fairly often. If you frequent Starbucks, this offer could be well worth taking advantage of in order to get your Gold status with practically no effort. Plus, as Starbucks continues to evolve its Rewards program, Gold status could become more valuable.

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either. Our opinions are our own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by our advertising partners.
