A great burger isn’t hard to find, especially in the United States. But a completely customized burger served at a private table inside the kitchen of a luxury hotel? That kind of exclusive experience is a little tougher to add to an itinerary.

Fortunately, travelers heading to Colorado can find this secret burger spot hidden inside the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail.

Called the Back of House Burger Bar, this joint is quite simply a dining table inside the hotel's main kitchen. The only way you’d know it's an official tasting counter is the small chalkboard sign hanging overhead that says, “Burger Bar.”

Not only will you get to create your own burger here (choose between a number of fixings, from caramelized onions to red peppers) but you'll also be able to experience the ceaseless hustle of a commercial kitchen. While you dine, watch orders from room service and the in-house Flame restaurant be executed by chefs and line cooks and carted swiftly beyond the kitchen doors.

And be sure to save room for the sides. (Order the kimchi Brussels sprouts. Trust us.)

Once you’re done with your meal, the experience is far from over — because what’s a burger without a milkshake? Head deeper into the kitchen to a room that seems solely dedicated to milkshakes with a larger-than-life mixer (alas, you won’t be using that). Guests can craft a custom milkshake with the option to mix in some very grown-up libations, assuming you’re of legal age.

Take your milkshake back to your kitchen-side table or head to the public bar for a spot near the fireplace. Either way, this experience feels like a very exclusive, VIP treat — and the Back of House Burger Bar may be one of the best spots to eat in Vail Village.

The Burger Bar is open to guests from noon to 4:30pm every day, but you will need a reservation. The price is $45 for adults and $20 for children. It's a ridiculously expensive burger, certainly. So be sure to charge the bill to a great credit card for dining rewards, such as the American Express® Gold Card for 4x points (a return of about $3.60 per burger) or your Chase Sapphire Reserve card for 3x points.
