Mo’ credits, mo’ problems reasons to keep your American Express cards at the top of your wallet.

A new month means a reset to all of the monthly credits that Amex is currently offering cardholders. Amex introduced these credits as a way to retain cardholder value during the pandemic. And they’ve done just that. Depending on how many Amex cards you have, you could get over $100 in value from these credits each month.

For example, you could get $20 toward dining with the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card or $15 toward a cell phone bill each month with the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card. Those are just two of many available monthly credits on a variety of Amex cards.

These credits are generally very easy to use — albeit with some reported delays for some offers. What isn’t as easy is keeping track of all the available credits and remembering to actually use them.

To make things a bit easier, we’ve created a spreadsheet that lets you see which credits are available to you and keep track of which ones you used — but you’ll want to make these purchases before the last days of the month roll around to make sure they post to your account in time to trigger the credit.

Monthly Amex statement credit tracker

You can download TPG’s monthly Amex statement credit tracker here (link to download Excel file via Dropbox).

The spreadsheet is relatively easy to use and will help ensure you get the most of your credits. Simply select which cards you have on the first tab and update the calendar tab whenever you use a credit. The spreadsheet will automatically populate the total credits you have available, the credits used and the percentage of available credits used.

Once that percentage reaches 100% and turns green, you’ll know you’ve fully maximized your credits for that month. The spreadsheet supports both personal American Express cards and business cards. Make sure to use all-caps for Y/N.

Amex Credits Spreadsheet

As noted above, there have been some reported delays in these credits actually posting to card members’ accounts. For example, it took TPG senior editor Nick Ewen nine days to receive the February dining credit on his Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card and 11 days to receive the February wireless credit on his Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card.

According to a statement from American Express, if you haven’t seen an expected credit post within a few weeks of an eligible transaction, follow-up in the Amex app or online at this link to inquire about the status.

Finally, some of these require card members to navigate to the Amex Offers section of their online accounts and actually add the offer. Otherwise, the statement credits won’t be triggered.

As a quick refresher, here’s a roundup of all of the Amex cards that are currently offering monthly statement credits:

Bottom line

With travel still on the back burner for many, it’s nice to see that American Express and its cobranded partners are offering limited-time perks to make these travel credit cards rewarding while still at home.

The spreadsheet we shared today will help you organize your monthly credits and make sure you’re fully utilizing them before they expire. After all, these credits can play a big role in essentially offsetting the cost of your annual fees.

Remember that these credits are “use it or lose it” benefits. In other words, they won’t roll over into the next month if you don’t use them — so jump on them today before it’s too late.
