London's Heathrow Airport (LHR) was put on lockdown earlier today while airport authorities responded to a piece of suspicious luggage at a security checkpoint. The item lead to the security checkpoints at Terminal 2 to be locked down while police and sniffer dogs were deployed to investigate the item.

Passengers took to Twitter to show the situation.

Heathrow Airport's official Twitter handle responded to stranded passengers, saying that Met police were on the case, and that "The safety of our passengers and colleagues is our absolute priority and we apologise to those passengers whose journeys were impacted as we responded to this incident."

The airport is now open and passengers are being processed through security. The lockdown lasted about 90 minutes.
