Soon after Marriott’s slew of program announcements in April, it launched the brand-new Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card with Chase and has since been offering a sign-up bonus of 100,000 points (after you spend $5,000 in the first three months). That elevated bonus will end on July 12, however, so you don’t have much time left to apply.
While spending $5,000 in the first three months from account opening may sound steep at first, this sign-up bonus amounts to a whopping $900 value based on TPG’s valuations, which is pretty great for a $95-a-year card.
The card comes with benefits like a free night award (at hotels that cost up to 35,000 points per night) every year after your account anniversary, automatic Silver status and travel protections. Free in-room premium Wi-Fi will be available starting in August, and beginning in 2019, cardholders will be able to earn Gold status after spending $35,000, and they’ll receive 15 elite night credits. Plus, the card offers solid earning rates — 6x points for Marriott and SPG purchases, and 2x for everything else which is a slight step up compared to some of its counterparts.
As a reminder, Chase has implemented the following sign-up restriction:
The product is not available to either current cardmembers of the Marriott Rewards Premier or Marriott Rewards Premier Plus credit card, or previous cardmembers of the Marriott Rewards Premier or Marriott Rewards Premier Plus credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.
However, current cardholders are able to upgrade to the new version, and may be eligible for upgrade incentives, such as bonus Marriott Rewards points. The business version of the card is considered to be a separate product entirely, so you may eligible for the new bonus if you don’t also have the consumer card.
Current SPG cardholders may be eligible to sign up for a new Chase account, too — for now, you can have this new Marriott Rewards card in addition to the the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express, and if you don’t have the Amex cards, you can earn both welcome bonuses there in addition to the 100,000-point offer from Chase.
The new Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card offers some solid benefits for a co-branded hotel card, but what makes it shine the most is definitely the 100,000-point sign-up bonus. If you plan on signing up for the card, you’ll want to act now because you only have until July 12 to get this elevated offer, and we don’t know when or if it will return.
