If you follow Orlando resort news (of which there’s never a shortage of newsy coming-soons and staples send offs, too), you might recall that the Villas of Grand Cypress — a mainstay Orlando resort for over 30 years that appealed to theme-park going families with golfers among them — shuttered in 2019.

And while the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed New Course at Grand Cypress Golf Course remains open on the property for golfers, the rest of the resort is in the throes of being recast as what will eventually be one massive and all-encompassing resort complex, the 10,000-bedroom Evermore Orlando Resort.

For hotel points hoarders who’ve managed to stack up some Hilton Honors points and have an Orlando family vacation on the long-term radar, you could be among the first guests to cash in some points for a luxury stay at the 433-room luxury Conrad Hotels & Resorts property.

And while the hotel will be the cornerstone accommodation offering of the new project, Evermore will also have a slew of upmarket (and points-bookable) vacation rental options (another commodity there’s no shortage of in Orlando — although when we say options, there are really quite the vacation rental options coming to Evermore).

There’s much we still don’t know about the resort, with the official opening still a few years down the road. But read on for all there is to know about Evermore Orlando Resort as of right now.

When does it open?

Evermore, the latest project by Texas-based Dart Interests, is scheduled to open its first phase by the summer of 2023, following the injection of roughly $1.5 billion in upgrades that includes a new luxury hotel and brand new vacation homes and villas, too, on the 1,110-acre site bordering Walt Disney World.

Between The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes, the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort — which neighbors Evermore Resort Orlando — the theme park corridor hardly wants for another upmarket resort offering (although we’re happy to add it to our list of area hotels you can book with points).

But the 2023 opening of the Conrad Orlando hotel marks the brand’s first Orlando property, with 433 guest rooms that include 51 suites and 10 family suites. Other amenities in the works for the property are a rooftop restaurant, full-service spa and over 40,000 square feet of meeting space sure to draw the interest of the conference and convention set.

It’s hardly just hotel rooms

Evermore’s comprehensive redevelopment of the former Villas of Grand Cypress includes a range of new vacation rental options in the mix, all of which will be managed by an onsite team to ensure uniform quality control, standardized hygiene protocols and standardized amenities throughout.

The idea seems to be that whatever your family configuration and needs are during a vacation in Orlando, this single, vast property should be able to answer them all in some way, shape or form. And with a single property team helming things for all accommodations, the hope is to make everything as smooth as possible in a world that seems to be talking an awful lot lately about Airbnb cancellations and the like.

With multigenerational travel exploding, Evermore Resort Orlando is answering the demand for a bigger and better range of accommodations in the form of 69 vacation homes it’s rolling out across the property. And by “homes” we actually mean mansions — all have between five and 11 bedrooms, plus private heated pools, so bring the in-laws, too.

There will be 76 four-bedroom, four-bathroom apartment-style accommodations called “flats” that will hug the shore of Evermore Bay, a Crystal Lagoons eight-acre “tropical lagoon” at the heart of Evermore’s 20-acre beach complex that comes with patented “state-of-the-art water and filtration technology.”

And for the family or group that wants something larger than a hotel room on vacation but smaller than a mansion, there are what Evermore is dubbing its “villas” — an additional 41 units with between two and four bedrooms that have patios overlooking the golf course or tropical lagoon.

The tropical lagoon is hardly just an oversized pool

The biggest thing Orlando lacks when it comes to Florida tourist offerings is the ocean. So the most competitive resorts here tend to make up for that fact with extraordinary pool and hotel waterparks on-site.

Crystal Lagoons — the patented design of a Chilean inventor that strives to provide “beach life anywhere,” according to its website — has been tapped to meet that need at the Evermore Orlando Resort in the form of the eight-acre tropical lagoon the resort has named “Evermore Bay.” Picture a Caribbean-hued lagoon lined by the property’s top-tier accommodations, with beach activities that will make you feel like you’re actually on the coast.

Evermore Bay will have tropical beach areas where guests can lounge in cabanas and multiple zero-entry swim and activity zones to help make it accessible to guests of all ages. The resort is telling guests to expect a cliff jumping area as well as a first-of-its-kind “blue hole” rope swing area, from which we are definitely getting a Jamaica-in-Orlando vibe.

Other amenities will include waterslides and fire pit areas, as well as a “recreation hub” where kayaks and standup paddleboards will be available to chart a course across the lagoon.

Golf isn’t going anywhere

Even during the resort’s construction, the golf won’t stop.

But while the New Course at Grand Cypress Golf Club (an homage to the Old Course at St. Andrews) will remain open throughout the development of Evermore Resort Orlando, the club’s current three nine-hole layouts will eventually go by the wayside in favor of a brand new Jack Nicklaus-designed course being built sometime down the line.

Bottom line

The current plan is for phase one of Evermore Orlando Resort to open by summer 2023 with an initial 1,500 rooms. The rest of the resort will roll out in phases over the course of the following five years or so. Bookings should open sometime next year.

But if there’s anything we’ve learned lately, it’s that nothing is a given and everything can change on a dime in this new normal. So watch this space for the latest updates as we get them.
