Today, Air Canada added Eurowings Discover as an Aeroplan partner. This news comes just days after Eurowings Discover made its inaugural flight.

Aeroplan members can now earn and redeem Aeroplan points on all Eurowings Discover flights. For some background, Eurowings Discover is Lufthansa Group’s new low-cost carrier. The airline has operating bases in Frankfurt, Germany (FRA), and Munich (MUC) and will operate flights from Europe to Africa, North America, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean. For example, the airline will soon operate seasonal flights from Frankfurt to Anchorage, Alaska (ANC), and Salt Lake City (SLC).

Let’s take a closer look at this new partnership and discuss how to earn and redeem Aeroplan points on Eurowings Discover flights.

Aeroplan members flying on Eurowings Discovery flights can now earn Aeroplan points by adding their Aeroplan frequent flyer number to Eurowings Discovery itineraries. Travelers will earn points based on the distance of their flight and the fare class they’re booked in. Intra-Europe and intercontinental flights will earn at different rates. This is the same as how Lufthansa flights earn points when crediting to Aeroplan.

Here’s a look at the Aeroplan earning chart for intra-Europe Eurowings Discover flights. This earning rate applies to both redeemable points and status qualifying miles.

Cabin Booking class Points accrual % Minimum points for elite members with elite status
Business J, C, D, Z 150% 375
P 50% 125
Economy Y, B, M, U, H, Q, V, W, S, T, L 50% 125
Ineligible for accrual I, O, R, X, A, K 0% 0

And here’s the Aeroplan earning chart for intercontinental Eurowings Discover flights:

Cabin Booking class Points accrual % Minimum points for elite members with elite status
Business J, C, D, Z 150% 375
P 100% 250
Premium Eco G, E 125% 313
N 100% 250
Eco Y, B 125% 313
M, U, H, Q, V 100% 250
W, S, T, L 50% 125
Ineligible for accrual I, O, R, X, A, K 0% 0

For example, if you fly one-way from Frankfurt to Salt Lake City in G fare premium economy, you’ll earn 6,522 Aeroplan points and status qualifying miles. This is because the one-way flight is 5,218 miles long, and G fare tickets earn 125% miles flown. Eurowings Discover flights booked through Air Canada are also eligible for earning status qualifying dollars based on the ticket cost.

Redeem Aeroplan points for Eurowings Discover flights

You can redeem Aeroplan points on Eurowings Discover flights the same way you would with any other partner carrier. All flights should appear right in the Air Canada award search engine, and you can book online. Flights are priced based on the Aeroplan award chart (PDF link), so longer flights cost more points. You will be charged a $29 partner booking fee on Eurowings Discover flights booked with Aeroplan points.

Bottom line

Eurowings Discover flew its inaugural flight earlier this month, so it’s good to see it already adding loyalty partners. We expect other Star Alliance loyalty programs like United MileagePlus to add Eurowings Discover as a partner shortly too. These airlines already have a close relationship with Lufthansa Group, and many have partnerships with other non-alliance subsidiaries like Air Dolomiti.
