If you haven’t used your semiannual credits from The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, today looks like a great day for you. That’s because you can not only redeem your $200 in semiannual credits for free items but also get an extra 10% cash back (or 10 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent) on these purchases.
In fact, you can probably do even better than this.
Let’s look at the offers you can stack if you shop today.

Dell credits on the Business Platinum Card
As a quick refresher, the Business Platinum Card offers up to $400 in annual statement credits for purchases from Dell. This comes in the form of $200 from January to June and another $200 from July through December, issued as credits on your account after you make purchases with your eligible card. Remember that you must enroll in advance to receive the credits.
There are numerous items you can get for (nearly) free with these credits, and they go beyond the traditional technology solutions for which Dell is known. I recently used my credits for a backpack to replace my carry-on bag when traveling.
Stacking credits — why you should shop today
So, what makes today such a great time to shop at Dell?
It’s because you might be able to actually make money on your shopping trip. Yes, you read that correctly. And it’s all thanks to an elevated earning rate at one of our favorite online shopping portals here at TPG.
Rakuten (formerly Ebates) is offering 10% back on Dell purchases today.
If you click through the Rakuten portal before shopping and then pay with your Business Platinum Card, you should receive $200 in statement credits plus 10% back from Rakuten. Remember that you can also choose to receive your Rakuten earnings as Membership Rewards points, meaning you would earn 10 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent.
And if you’re not currently a member of Rakuten, you could enjoy a one-time bonus of $30 when you register at this link and spend $30 within 90 days.
It gets even better.
Targeted American Express cardholders may be able to stack another offer on top of this for an even better rate of return on their purchases.
Check your Amex Offers for the offer above, offering an extra mile or extra point (depending on which card has the offer) on each dollar spent with Dell, up to 25,000 total points or miles.
You can also look for the offer below, which provides an additional 10% cash back on Dell purchases, up to $1,500 back.
The details of these Amex Offers note that the offer is only good for eligible purchases online at dell.com/amex, but the terms also note that phone purchases are eligible — indicating that any Dell purchase likely will trigger the offers.
Indeed, multiple data points indicate that any Dell purchase will trigger this Amex Offer — even if you don’t go through dell.com/amex.
Steps to maximizing these offers
If you’re looking for a quick summary on how to maximize these offers for getting items from Dell at a huge discount, do the following:
- Log in to your American Express account and check your Amex Offers for Dell. Remember that these are limited to one card per cardmember, so you’ll want to enroll for the offer on the Business Platinum Card (if you have one).
- From the “Rewards & Benefits” section of your American Express account, enroll in the Dell benefit before making any purchases (if you haven’t already done so).
- Browse to the Dell landing page on Rakuten. Log in to your account (or register for a new account here if you don’t have one), and then click through to Dell.
- In that browser, find the item (or items) that you want, and complete your purchase using your Amex Business Platinum.
The statement credit should post within a few days, though the official terms indicate that it could take up to four weeks. Again, though, be sure to enroll in the Dell benefit and activate any targeted Amex Offer before completing the purchase. Otherwise, you’ll likely miss out on this great opportunity.
Rakuten is currently offering 10% back (or 10 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent) on Dell purchases, and I’m regretting using all of my Dell credits for the first half of the year on my Business Platinum Card. As a result, I can’t take advantage of these new offers.
However, if you haven’t made any Dell purchases in 2022, today is a great day to do so. You may be able to stack multiple offers to get up to $200 in statement credits from your Business Platinum Card, 10% back (or 10 Amex points per dollar) from Rakuten and potentially even extra points or bonus cash back from a targeted Amex Offer.
And if you’re not currently a Rakuten member, you could also enjoy a one-time bonus of $30 by signing up here.
We don’t know exactly when the Rakuten offer will disappear, but you can be sure it won’t last forever.
