Cape Air backfills JetBlue's dropped Boston-Long Island route in 5-route expansion
Regional airline Cape Air is filling the gap recently left by JetBlue Airways at Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP), part of a broader five-route expansion this summer.
The airline will connect ISP with Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) four times daily beginning July 3, Cape Air said in a statement. The flights will operate on the airline's new nine-seat Tecnam P2012 Traveller prop planes.
ISP is about a 1 1/2-hour drive east of Times Square in Manhattan.

JetBlue launched the Boston-to-Long Island, New York route in April, only to suspend it less than two weeks later. The airline continues to serve Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) from ISP.
Cape Air is a JetBlue partner, and travelers can earn TrueBlue Loyalty Points on Cape Air flights booked through JetBlue's website.
However, Cape Air's new Long Island flights are not yet covered by the partnership.

Cape Air is also adding four new routes, including one new airport, to its New England map. On June 13, the airline launched seasonal weekend service between Westchester County Airport (HPN) north of New York City and Provincetown Municipal Airport (PVC). The route is the only nonstop between a New York-area airport and the popular Cape Cod destination.
On July 3, Cape Air will land for the first time at Norwood Memorial Airport (OWD) in the southwestern Boston suburbs. It will offer seasonal summer flights to Martha's Vineyard Airport (MVY) and Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK).
And on Sept. 29, Cape Air will link New Bedford Regional Airport (EWB) in Massachusetts and BOS twice daily. The flights are included in the airline's partnership with JetBlue and are bookable on the latter's website.

With the new routes, Cape Air will fly roughly a third more seats this June, July and August in New England compared to last year, schedule data from aviation analytics firm Cirium shows. The airline's schedule is also about 10% larger than it was during the same period in 2019.
Below are the details of Cape Air's new routes:
- Boston-Long Island: four daily year-round flights from July 3
- Boston-New Bedford: twice daily year-round flights from Sept. 29
- Norwood-Martha's Vineyard: one daily flight Thursday to Monday from July 3 through Oct. 13
- Norwood-Nantucket: one daily flight Thursday to Monday from July 3 through Oct. 13
- Westchester-Provincetown: two daily flights from Thursday to Monday from June 13 through Oct. 14
