This article has been updated with the new earning rate of 2 miles per dollar saved annually as of Dec. 1, 2022.

Flying, dining, shopping and swiping credit cards aren’t the only way to earn American Airlines AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points, the new way to reach AAdvantage status. Soon you can also save your way to earning Loyalty Points — and miles — thanks to the latest offer from Bask Bank.

From today (Sept. 15) through Dec. 15, 2022, you can earn 5,000 Loyalty Points after opening a new Bask Mileage Savings account and depositing $25,000 within the first 15 days. You’ll also earn an elevated 2 miles for every dollar saved in your account annually (see terms and conditions here).

Keep reading to learn more about Bask Bank and this exciting new offer.

What is Bask Bank?

Bask Bank is an online bank that offers the chance to earn AAdvantage miles in lieu of cash interest with the Bask Mileage Savings Account. (The bank also offers traditional savings options as well.) Bask Bank is FDIC insured so you can trust that your money is safe and secure while you’re earning your way to free travel.

It’s easy to earn miles with Bask Bank. All you have to do is open an account and deposit funds. You’ll begin earning immediately — as long as the name on your Bask Mileage Savings Account and AAdvantage account is a match.

However, if you’re aiming for American status this year, you may want to consider signing up today.

Elevated sign-up bonus

From Sept. 15 to Dec. 15, 2022, you can earn 5,000 Loyalty Points as a new account holder after depositing $25,000 into your Bask Mileage Savings account within the first 15 calendar days of account approval. Then, maintain that balance for 90 consecutive days within the first 105 days of account opening, and you’ll be that much closer to American elite status.

As a quick refresher, earlier this year, American Airlines introduced Loyalty Points, allowing members to earn status in other ways than just flying. Many TPG writers have plans to earn top-tier status with the airline thanks to Loyalty Points, and one even earned Gold status without taking a single flight.

Now, you can get closer to earning status yourself when you open a Bask Mileage Savings account with this elevated sign-up bonus.

Earning American miles

But the status boost isn’t the only reason to open an account with Bask Bank. As of Dec. 1, 2022, account holders now earn 2 AAdvantage miles per dollar saved annually. While these earnings don’t count as Loyalty Points, they can still get you much closer to your next trip.

If you deposit exactly $25,000 in your Bask Mileage Savings account and keep it there for a full 12 months, that’ll get you 50,000 AAdvantage miles — which TPG values at $885. That’s a rate of return of over 3.5%.

Note that these bonus miles will be paid out in monthly increments, so in the above example, you’d earn just over 4,000 miles each month. However, you could earn even more by depositing additional funds (though the enrollment bonus is limited to 5,000 Loyalty Points).

Bottom line

Bask Bank gives you the opportunity to earn American miles instead of cash as interest on your savings, and starting today, you can earn a one-time bonus of 5,000 Loyalty Points when you open a new Bask Mileage Savings account. Simply open the account between Sept. 15 and Dec. 15, 2022, deposit $25,000 within the first 15 calendar days and maintain that balance for at least 90 consecutive days.

In addition to the Loyalty Points, you’ll also earn 2 AAdvantage miles for every dollar saved annually.

This is a chance to either jumpstart or continue your journey to American Airlines status, all while earning redeemable miles along the way.
