Another State Now Fully Allows Uber and Lyft to Operate in Its Borders

Before Sunday, in many parts of Alabama, you were unable to get order a ride through a ride-hailing service like Uber or Lyft. But, on Sunday a new law went into effect allowing the companies to operate anywhere in the state.
The law was signed by Governor Kay Ivey in March. Previously, only major cities like Huntsville and Mobile allowed the services making it more difficult for suburbanites and rural dwellers to get a ride through their phone.
A patchwork of local laws and regulations will be scrapped with a new system that streamlines regulation of ride-hailing companies. The Alabama Public Service Commission will issue operating permits and implement regulations and rules.
Under the new law, anyone in the state can work as a driver, too. Alabama is the 45th state in the nation to allow ride-hailing companies to operate statewide.
