Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available.
If you have a hotel stay coming up over the next few months and hold an American Express card, listen up: You may be able to save some serious cash or take home a solid haul of bonus points on your next trip. Many American Express cardholders have reported they’ve been targeted for even more deep discounts at major hotel chains through the Amex Offers program.
I received several Amex Offers for either points or cashback on Hilton Hotels, Curio Collection and Canopy brands. I first saw a cashback offer for $50 back after spending $300 or more at Hilton Hotels, Curio Collection and Canopy brands in the U.S. I saw this offer on The Platinum Card® from American Express.
Scrolling through my Amex Offers, I saw a better offer for 5,000 Membership Rewards points on my Business Platinum Card® from American Express after spending $300 or more from now through the end of June. We value Amex points at 2 cents each, making this offer worth $100. The card is offering a public welcome bonus of up to 75,000 points; earn 50,000 points after you spend $10,000 in purchases in the first three months, plus an additional 25,000 points after you spend another $10,000 in the first three months of account opening.
For both offers, you must book directly through Hilton, Curio or Canopy either on the website, through the app or by calling. Note that both offers are only valid at Hilton, Curio or Canopy hotels in the U.S. and U.S. territories. Also keep in mind that this offer excludes all other brands, such as Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and DoubleTree by Hilton. Gift card purchases are also excluded, and make sure you don’t accidentally book an advance purchase rate, including Advance Purchase, Save Now & Pay and non-refundable rates as these won’t trigger the offer.
I also spotted an offer on my American Express® Gold Card for a $40 statement credit after spending at least $200 or more at Hampton by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn from now through June 30, 2020. Similar to the offers above, this Amex Offer is only available in the U.S. and its territories. The card offers a public welcome bonus of 35,000 points after you spend $4,000 in purchases in the first three months of account opening.
And these offers aren’t the only ones out there.
Recently, I saw $200 statement credit after spending $1,000 or more at Hilton hotels in Hawaii from now through June 30, 2020. Here’s what you need to know.
You’ll get the statement credit after spending at least $1,000 at Hilton properties in Hawaii only. You’ll need to book directly through Hilton to receive the credit. Make sure you read the terms and conditions, as the offer does not apply to advance purchase rates, including Advance Purchase, Save Now & Pay and Non-refundable rates or gift card purchases.
It shouldn’t be difficult to hit this spending requirement. Hilton has 11 properties across four of Hawaii’s island (not counting its Grand Vacations timeshare properties), ranging from budget-friendly to high-end. For instance, a one-night stay at the 62-acre oceanfront Hilton Waikoloa Village will cost you around $250 a night,
The offer seems to be pretty widespread, as I saw it on all of my Amex cards, including The Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, American Express® Gold Card and American Express® Green Card.
Waldorf Astoria & Conrad
I received an offer for a $60 statement credit after spending $350 or more at Waldorf Astoria & Conrad hotels in the U.S. and U.S. territories. I received the offer on the recently-refreshed American Express® Green Card, which now earns 3X on travel purchases, which includes hotels. The card offers a public welcome bonus of 30,000 bonus points after you spend $2,000 in purchases in the first three months of account opening.
You must pay for your stay directly at waldorfastoria.com, conradhotels.com, via the Hilton Honors App or by calling each hotel by May 31, 2020. Waldorf Astoria and Conrad are each higher-end hotels in the Hilton portfolio, so meeting the spending requirement shouldn’t be difficult. A one-night stay at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills can cost you around $675, while the Conrad New York Midtown can cost about $400 a night.
I saw several offers for either points or statement credits for Hilton DoubleTree & Tapestry properties. I saw the $40 statement credit offer on my Platinum Card® from American Express, which requires a $250 spending requirement. You must book direct with the hotel by June 30, 2020, and the offer is only eligible at hotels in the U.S. or U.S. territories.
The better offer is for 4,000 Amex points — worth $80, according to our latest valuations — after spending $250 or more. Similar to the offer above, you must book directly with the hotel, and the offer is only valid in the U.S. or U.S. territories. I saw this offer on my Amex Green card.
TPG Senior Editor Nick Ewen was targeted for a $45 statement credit after spending $300 at select Marriott properties. He received the offer on The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, while his wife got the offer on her Platinum Card® from American Express.
Note that the offer is valid only at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories. You must book online, through the Marriott Bonvoy app or by calling 1-888-236-2427. Note that you cannot purchase gift cards or Marriott Bonvoy points with this offer.
Several TPG staffers discovered two different offers for cash back or points at select MGM Resorts Destinations properties. TPG Executive Editor Scott Mayerowitz received both offers. The first was on his Amex Platinum for an $80 statement credit after spending $400 or more. The offer can be used for several MGM properties including the Bellagio, The Mirage and New York-New York. All other MGM properties not listed in the screengrab below are excluded.
The other offer is for 8,000 points after spending $400 or more. He saw this offer on the American Express® Gold Card. It’s similar to the offer above.
Tru by Hilton
One of Hilton Honors’ newest brands is Tru, and even though it only launched in 2016, the current slate of properties numbers over 100 in 34 states (plus a single location in Canada). If you’re taking a trip to one of these locations in the first quarter of 2020, you could take home a nice haul of bonus points. TPG Senior Editor Nick Ewen noticed an offer on his Platinum Card® from American Express this morning, giving him the chance to earn 3,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $150 from January 13, 2020, through March 31, 2020.
Based on TPG’s valuations, this bonus is worth $60, so if you hit $150 on the nose, that’s an additional return of 40%. Just note that the terms and conditions indicate that you must book at trubyhilton.com or via the Hilton Honors app, and it’s a one-time bonus (as opposed to cumulative purchases through the end of March).
Hilton hotels in Puerto Rico and Mexico
If your travel plans include a visit to Puerto Rico or Mexico, we see solid offers on trips to Hilton-branded properties. For Puerto Rico, if you spend $350 or more on rate and room charges by March 31, 2020, you’ll take home a one-time bonus of 6,000 Membership Rewards points — a haul worth $120 based on TPG’s most recent valuations.
Meanwhile, Hilton-branded locations in Mexico are offering $75 back when you spend $500 or more through March 31, 2020.
Like most of these offers, you must book directly at Hilton.com or via the Hilton Honors app, and the usual exclusions apply (e.g., advance purchase rates, non-refundable rates, etc.).
These new offers are in addition to existing ones that have been around for weeks (or even months), including the following:
Omni Hotels & Resorts Amex Offer
Another ongoing offer is for anyone looking to stay at Omni Hotels & Resorts, where you can receive a $50 statement credit on a $250 or more hotel stay through March 2, 2020.
To be eligible for this offer, you must book directly with Omni for hotels and resorts in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. If your total stay is less than $250, make sure to charge all additional incidentals to your room, such as dining at the restaurant or room service.
WELCOME OFFER: 60,000 Points Terms Apply.
