The Amex Offers program is one of the best ways to get outsized value out of your American Express cards, and it can really help pay for the annual fees on premium cards like The Platinum Card® from American Express.
We’ve seen a number of rewarding Amex Offers this week, including bonus points on Air Canada flights and discounts on stays at luxury Conrad and Waldorf Astoria properties. Amex is back with yet another offer worth checking out, this time giving targeted cardholders the chance to earn either bonus Membership Rewards points or cash back on upcoming stays at Hilton Hotels, Curio Collection properties and Canopy locations.
There are actually a few different versions of this floating around. I’ve seen offers of 5,000 Membership Rewards points or $50 back on stays of $250 or more:
TPG Senior Editor Nick Ewen was targeted for a slightly less lucrative offer of $45 back on stays of $300 or more:
Obviously the top offer is preferred, especially if you’re targeted for the bonus points. A $50 rebate on a $250 stay will get you 20% back, but the 5,000 bonus points are worth $95 based on TPG’s most recent valuations, . That version of the offer thus gives you a rebate of up to 38% on your next stay.
This offer expires at the end of the year, on December 31st 2018, and you’ll need to book directly with the hotel to earn your credit (i.e. over the pone, online, or through the Hilton app, and not through a third party online travel agency). In addition, the terms and conditions clearly state that this offer is only valid at Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Curio – A Collection by Hilton™ and Canopy™ by Hilton in the US & US territories.
To add the offer to your card, log-in to your American Express account and scroll down to the “Amex Offers and Benefits” section (you may need to click “Load More” to see the offer). Amex Offers are targeted, so it’s possible your card won’t be eligible for the promotion. I found the offer on my Amex Platinum and American Express® Gold Card, while Nick had the $45 version on his Hilton Honors American Express Ascend Card. However, neither one of us had it on The Blue BusinessSM Plus Credit Card from American Express, nor did it show up on any of our Starwood Amex cards (including the Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card).
The timing of this offer, and the $70 discount at select Waldorf and Conrad Astoria properties, is absolutely perfect as it coincides with elevated welcome offers on all 4 American Express Hilton credit cards. For example, you can now earn an all time high bonus of 150,000 Hilton Honors points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months with the premium Hilton Honors Aspire Card from American Express. Of course you’ll also earn 14x Hilton points per dollar if you’re paying with the Aspire card, making this deal even more rewarding.
While Hilton properties are fine, I’m particularly intrigued by the other two brands in this offer. Founded in 2014, Curio is one of Hilton’s newest and most upscale brands and has quickly grown to over 30 properties in seven countries including Belize, Argentina, and China. From an old gathering spot for writers like Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald to the hotel in Miami favored by the teams competing in the annual Orange Bowl.
Canopy, meanwhile, offers a more boutique stay experience centered around the neighborhood of each individual property. Even though there are only 5 properties currently available (including a TPG-tested Canopy in Reykjavik, Iceland), there are 18 additional locations slated to open in the next few years, though that obviously won’t help with this current promotion. Regardless of the route you choose to go, both Canopy and Curio properties are sure to add a unique touch to your upcoming Hilton vacation and are now even more rewarding with this Amex offer.
