Hurricane Willa will make landfall this evening along the Pacific coast of Mexico, just south of popular resort town Mazatlán. The hurricane, which briefly reached Category 5 strength Monday, is the third Category 5 storm of the 2018 Eastern Pacific season, which has become the most active season on record.

Willa is setting other meteorological records as well. Although the storm barreling its way north is currently more than 2,000 miles from New York City, the hurricane is currently on track to become the East Coast’s first major Nor’easter of the season, bringing gusty winds, up to 20-foot waves along the East Coast and the possibility of the season’s first snow to the Appalachians.

As of 4pm ET, the following airlines have issued waivers for Hurricane Willa:

Alaska

  • Travel dates: October 22-25
  • Covered airports: Mazatlan (MZT), Puerto Vallarta (PVR)
  • Must have purchased ticket by: October 25
  • Rebooked travel must occur between October 22-November 1
  • We will waive the change fees and the difference in the price of the ticket if the new travel is booked to or from the affected cities in the same cabin and travel is completed during the new travel dates listed above. Additional taxes may apply.
  • You may request a refund if you choose not to travel at all. Tickets must be exchanged or refunded prior to the departure of your original flight. Rebook your flight or apply for a refund online.
  • This waiver is valid only for tickets issued by Alaska Airlines. Tickets can be identified by a 13-digit ticket number beginning with Alaska Airlines code “027”. Tickets issued by other airlines with a different carrier code (ticket numbers not beginning with “027”) are subject to the waiver policy of other airline.

American

  • Travel dates: October 23-24
  • Covered airports: Mazatlan (MZT), Puerto Vallarta (PVR)
  • Must have purchased ticket by: October 22
  • Rebooked travel must occur between October 22-26
  • Rebook in the same cabin or pay the difference. No changes in origin or destination are allowed.
  • Avoid the phone queue. Changes available on both AA’s website and in the AA app.

Delta

  • Travel dates: October 23-24
  • Covered airports: Puerto Vallarta (PVR)
  • Tickets must have been purchased by: October 23
  • Tickets must be reissued by: October 31
  • Rebooked travel must begin no later than: October 31
  • Changes to origins and destinations may result in an increase in fare. Any difference in fare between your original ticket and the new ticket will be collected at the time of booking.
  • When rescheduled travel occurs beyond October 31, the change fee will be waived. However, a difference in fare may apply. Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity, one year from date of original issue.
  • If travel is not able to be rescheduled within these guidelines, customers may cancel their reservation and apply any unused value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket for a period of one year from the original ticket issuance. Applicable change fee and fare difference will apply for new travel dates.

United

  • Travel dates: October 23-25
  • Covered airports: Puerto Vallarta (PVR)
  • The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new United flights departing on or before November 1, as long as travel is rescheduled in the originally ticketed cabin (any fare class) and between the same cities as originally ticketed.

WestJet

  • Travel dates: October 20-26
  • Covered airports: Mazatlan (MZT), Puerto Vallarta (PVR)
