Summer is almost here and if you haven’t used your Saks Fifth Avenue statement credit that comes with The Platinum Card® from American Express, now is the time to do so. With this credit, you receive up to $100 per calendar year — $50 between January and June and then another $50 between July and December. This means time is winding down to reap your credit for the first half of the year.

Although you can use the credit toward the purchase of expensive items, it is also possible to use the credit to fully (or almost fully) offset your purchase and ultimately get a free (or near-free) item from Saks. Here are my favorite summer items to consider for your family:

Sunscreen Stick

Although not CVS pricing, Saks surprisingly sells sunscreen. They are your high-end brands and many of them with natural ingredients. There are a ton of options, including the Supergoop! 100% Mineral Sunscreen Stick SPF 45. This is perfect for keeping your youngster’s face, ears and lips safe from the sun. At $24 a stick, you can purchase two for your summer needs and fully use your $50 credit.

Flip-flops

A summertime must, Saks sells lots of flip-flop options. I really love Mini Melissa shoes for my daughter, but they are outrageously expensive. Fortunately, there are some on sale at the store and I am really loving this sparkly pair at $45. Although I won’t pay this price for kids’ flip-flops, I’ll happily purchase them for free after the credit. You can always purchase a few pairs of Havianas to get to the $50 mark.

Sneakers

In my household, every season is usually marked by the purchase of a new pair of sneakers. Saks sells a bunch of See Kai Run sneakers, which are great for the summer because they are lightweight, but still perfect for the outdoors. Most of them cost anywhere from $42 and $55, which means you can get them for free with the credit or pay only a few dollars out of pocket.

Picnic Blanket

With the sun not setting until later in the day, now is the prime time for picnics in the park, at the beach or by the pool. Saks is selling a large picnic blanket for $40. With its red, white and blue motif, it is perfect for your Fourth of July party, as well.

Lawn Games

At your picnic, you’ll also want some fun lawn games. Saks is selling a pretty cool two-sided game with a bean bag throw on one side and tic-tac-toe on the other. For just $27.95, this is the perfect family game to bring when you’re on-the-go.

Rash Guard

For beach and pool goers, a rash guard is a must to enjoy a full day out in the sun. Saks sells many rash guards under $50.

Sunglasses

One of my favorite brands is Babiators. These sunglasses are available for babies, toddlers and kids and are absolutely adorable. Aesthetics aside, these sunglasses offer 100% UV protection and are guaranteed for the first year. If the sunglasses get lost or broken (highly probable with kids), the company will send you a free replacement pair (you have to pay for shipping). Of course, you can purchase these sunglasses for slightly less on Amazon, but with your $50 credit, they can instead end up being free. Many of the sunglasses are $20–$25, so you could get two pairs.

Backpack

With summer camp right around the corner, a new backpack might be needed. Saks carries many Herschel backpacks with various designs and colors — the perfect size for your child’s belongings. At a $49.99 price point, this is the perfect opportunity to fully wipe away that $50 credit.

Raincoat

A good rain coat is a must-have for those rainy summer days. I absolutely adore the Hatley brand, but like many other brands, the price point is just too high to pay full price. Since many of their raincoats are in the $50–$60 range, the Amex Platinum credit is a great way to reduce the cost significantly.

Summer Dresses

In my household, summertime equals summer dresses. Saks offers a variety of cute clothing styles for kids, and you can absolutely find a new outfit for your child under the $50 price point. I came across this unicorn dress for my daughter. For those of you with little girls, you are probably already aware that unicorn anything is the “it” thing right now. At $44, this will not only use up my Amex Platinum credit, but also make my daughter extremely happy, as well.

Bottom Line

You only have a few more weeks to use that $50 Saks credit, so we’ve offered a few suggestions. There are a ton of items to purchase for your summer needs. And then, come July, you can use the second six-month credit toward another purchase. To fully maximize your purchase, make sure to first go through an online shopping portal. I suggest checking Evreward to find the highest payout, although there is also a bonus offer right now with the United and American portals.
