Marriott hotels across the world have factored into millions of vacations, but the travel experience goes far beyond accommodations. When you go to Rome, you want to taste the local flavor. Go to Colorado, and you want to experience the outdoors.
With its Marriott Moments platform, the (newly combined) hotel brand is expanding its footprint in the travel industry by offering a wide range of activities available for purchase through the Marriott Rewards site. Best of all: You earn 10 points per dollar spent on these experiences.
This further enhances the brand, which now includes all SPG properties as well, expanding members’ earning power.
From walking tours to culinary experiences to sporting events, Marriott Moments are available in more than 1,000 destinations. We pored through them and came up with a list of our favorites, taking into account value and, of course, fun.
Lower East Side Food and Culture Tour (New York)
Cost: $69 per ticket (earn 690 points)
What vacation isn’t, at least in part, about eating? This three-hour tour of eateries in Manhattan’s Lower East Side provides you plenty to sample, at delis, bakeries and more, at a great price. Seriously, $69 could be the cost of lunch in one of the world’s most expensive cities. The best part? You’ll visit an old-fashioned candy store that’s been causing cavities since 1937.
Jail and Sail: Alcatraz Tour and Twilight Bay Cruise (San Francisco)
Cost: $108 per ticket (earn 1,080 points)
One of the priciest cities to live in once housed some of society’s most violent criminals on Alacatraz Island. You’ll board a ferry, which takes you to the former federal prison. A 45-minute audio tour featuring voices of former correctional officers and inmates takes you through the history of the prison. Upon return from the island, you’ll walk to Fisherman’s Wharf where you’ll board a two-hour sunset cruise that features appetizers and live music.
Horseback Adventure at Kualoa Ranch on Oahu (Honolulu)
Cost: From $89 per ticket (earn 890 points)
The setting of the first “Jurassic Park, ” less the man-eating dinosaurs, looks pretty picturesque. The two-hour version of this tour takes you by horseback to the site where the movie was filmed and a handful of other blockbusters for which Kualoa Ranch served as the backdrop. The tour takes you through forests and points you to remnants of the first people to live on the island.
Atlantis Submarine Day Tour (Barbados)
Cost: $99 per ticket (earn 990 points)
This family-friendly activity takes you 55 feet underwater to view the coral reef and a litany of marine life. The air-conditioned submarine then dives further to depths of 115 and 150 feet, where you’ll pass by a sunken shipwreck. Adult tickets include a complimentary drink.
“Game of Thrones” Walking Tour of Dubrovnik (Dubrovnik, Croatia)
Cost: $69 per ticket (earn 690 points)
Though the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” is shot throughout Europe, the set in Dubrovnik (home to King’s Landing, for those who watch the show) has been a mainstay. This guided tour will highlight the biggest moments in the series, taking you to places where characters strolled, wars broke out and magic was made.
Marriott is stepping up its game. The brand now allows you to book a vacation and associated activities with little effort, attempting to do away with the site-by-site booking of different activities. Marriott Moments has something for all kinds of travelers from romantics to families to foodies.
