Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Last weekend, we saw some great Hawaii flight deals pop up from California, Texas and as far east as Atlanta. Many of those routes still have availability at those prices, and now we're seeing Hawaii deals spread to even more cities — particularly United deals out of American Airlines hubs. Just make sure to avoid the recent volcano eruption and don't bring banned sunscreens.

To book, head to Google Flights and plug in your desired departure city. After finding the dates that work best for you, book with the airline directly or with an OTA such as Expedia or Priceline. If you want to avoid basic economy, you’ll want to use Google Flights’ newest feature that allows you to filter out the fare.

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either.
