Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through the Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

The Europe fare sales continue, this time with a number of cheap prices for smaller cities as well as the traditional big players. This batch is best for travelers with some schedule flexibility, as many routes include layovers in hub cities such as Amsterdam or Lisbon. You may have to endure a lengthy layover on one leg of the journey when traveling to some of the smaller European cities served by TAP Air Portugal, which has the majority of the cheap fares.

There appears to be many Western European cities discounted, so plug in your departure and preferred destination to see if your dream vacation is apart of this sale. Be aware that every city pair will not be discounted, so you might have to do a few searches before finding an ideal itinerary.

The best prices will often be in basic economy, which includes a carry-on bag only (and sometimes a meal). You'll usually have to pay extra for seat selection and a checked bag.

To search, head to Priceline or Expedia.

How we chose these cards
