Holiday Inn Express South Lake Tahoe
With snow falling this winter, I can't wait to find time to strap on some skis and launch myself down a mountain. So, I started my search out in popular ski areas and stumbled across the Holiday Inn Express South Lake Tahoe. As with all Holiday Inn Express properties, breakfast is included, and I'm already planning to gobble up a few pancakes before making my way over to the nearby slopes.
While the outdoor pool will be closed for the season, the indoor sauna will certainly be appreciated by sore muscles after a day on the slopes. But you won't have to soothe a bruised wallet thanks to reasonable rates like this:
Crowne Plaza HY36 Midtown Manhattan
Another one of the properties that I stumbled across when looking into options for myself is this Crowne Plaza HY36 Midtown. Located near Madison Square Garden and Times Square, it's a great home base for those looking to explore the the Big Apple. Having just opened in January 2018, it landed it as one of TPG's hottest hotel openings of the year in NYC.

Holiday Inn Express Waikiki
While Holiday Inn Express might not pop into your head when you think about relaxing on a beach in Hawaii, you might want to give it a chance. Prices in Hawaii quite expensive -- not surprisingly since the 50th state is located in the middle of an ocean. But this means that Holiday Inn Express' free breakfast is actually much more of a perk than in other locations. Along with nearby beaches, there are on-site activities that you might not associate with a Holiday Inn Express: private pool cabanas, 9-hole mini-golf, ping pong and foosball tables, kids' game room and even yoga classes for the $25 per day resort fee.
And in an infamously expensive tourist destination, you can get some quite-reasonable rates at this just-renovated property to hopefully pair with your cheap flight out to the islands.
avid hotel Oklahoma City -- Quail Springs
Katie and I enjoyed our stay at the first-ever Avid Hotel located in Oklahoma City. The brand is a new twist on a budget-friendly, functional property, while still including perks like free breakfast, a well-stocked fitness center and a surprisingly-comfortable mattress. And you can try it out for yourself for even cheaper during the Annual Sale -- like this three-night weekend stay for just $73 per night including taxes/fees:
EVEN Hotel Seattle
Speaking of new brands, another newer IHG brand that I have enjoyed staying at a few times in New York City is the wellness-themed EVEN Hotels brand. From exercise tools and standing desks in the room to the biggest hotel gym I've ever seen, my EVEN Hotels experiences have left me energized ... even if I didn't end up using the exercise equipment that stay.
Now the brand has expanded to 9 locations, including the EVEN Hotels in Seattle. Its location is prime — within walking distance of Pike Place Market and right next to Amazon's HQ1. And, you can check it out for yourself for a steal. Here's a long Friday-Monday option in early January for just $352 total ($117 per night) for the three-night stay:
