Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through the Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

No matter the time of the year, Spain is a wonderful place to visit. While there are more luxurious ways of flying there, it's hard to beat the ease of flying nonstop. We're finding nonstop options under $400 on low-cost carriers LEVEL (review here) and Norwegian (review here) — both airlines have received solid marks from TPG reviewers. Or, you can fly on mainline carriers for just over $400 round-trip nonstop. Cheap flights are available from Boston (BOS), San Francisco (SFO), Newark (EWR), New York (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX) and Miami (MIA) to Barcelona (BCN) and Madrid (MAD).

There are no tricks to find these fares. Use Google Flights to search for your preferred departure and destination and then book directly with the airline or an OTA like Expedia or Priceline.

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either. Our opinions are our own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by our advertising partners.
