Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Budget carrier Icelandair is running a sale to a slew of European destinations including Amsterdam (AMS), Stockholm (ARN), Paris (CDG), Copenhagen (CPG), London (LHR/LGW), Oslo (OSL) and Zurich (ZRH). You can find flights from as little as $306 roundtrip with US departure cities including Boston (BOS), Denver (DEN), Washington DC (IAD), New York (JFK), Chicago (ORD) and Philadelphia (PHL). We recommend using Google Flights to find your desired departure city, destination and dates.

We've reviewed Icelandair economy in the past, and it's received solid marks. Just keep in mind that Icelandair has transformed itself to a budget carrier, so you'll have to pay for a checked bag. These fares still include a carry-on bag, seat selection and non-alcoholic drinks. Competitor and ultra low-cost carrier WOW Air charges for all of the former items. Icelandair is partner with Alaska Airlines, so you could even earn some Alaska miles on this cheap European journey.

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either. Our opinions are our own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by our advertising partners.
