Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through the Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.
Update 6/19 11:30pm ET: This deal appears to have expired. Congratulations to anyone who was able to take advantage!
Here’s something you don’t see every day! Business class seats on United’s route between Newark (EWR) and Los Angeles (LAX) are currently available from just $430 one-way or about 28,700 Ultimate Rewards points if you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve and book through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal. These flights typically cost at least $659 or 32,500 United miles (if you’re lucky enough to find saver award availability). Availability of the low fares is pretty widespread from July 2019 through May 2020.
If you are able to snag one of these cheap flights, you’ll be in for a solid inflight experience, including fully lie-flat seats, multi-course dining and United Club access. Most flights on this route are operated by United’s 757-200s with business class seats arranged in a 2-2 configuration. However, there are two flights a day operated by United’s new 787-10s. These planes feature United’s new Polaris business class seats, which are a huge upgrade over the older seats, so you’ll want to try snag a seat one of those flights. For a complete overview of what to expect, be sure to read TPG Editor at Large Zach Honig’s review from Los Angeles to Newark on the 787-10.
These fares won’t last long, so you’ll want to book right away. To search, head to Google Flights and enter your origin and destination cities. Scroll through the calendar function to find dates and prices that work for you. Finally, click through to book directly with the airline or through an OTA like Priceline or Expedia.
