Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Non-stop premium economy fares from Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) to Hong Kong (HKG) and Tokyo (NRT) are currently being offered from $999 round-trip. LA fliers get to experience premium economy aboard American Airlines (a Oneworld member) while those from the Bay Area get to experience it aboard Singapore Airlines (a Star Alliance member). We've reviewed both carriers' premium economy offerings and neither should disappoint. There are also special tricks to maximize your mileage earning on American Airlines premium economy flights, which you can read more on after the flight booking examples.

Once you've booked your flights, you'll have countless options for booking your accommodations in Hong Kong and Tokyo using points.

Even 6-foot 7-inch tall TPG fits in Singapore Airlines’ premium economy seats.

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either. Our opinions are our own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by our advertising partners.
