Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through the Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to line-up the time away.
Although the Frontier Airlines "best sale of the season" ended on August 1, the ultra-low-cost carrier is still offering some very cost-effective getaways for early fall between a large number of cities. Book by August 13 for travel dates between August 18 to November 14.
Remember that budget airlines like Frontier charge additional fees for full-size carry-on bags, checked bags and seat assignments. However, you can earn entry-level Elite20k elite status with Frontier after just one round-trip ticket (with connecting flights) or two round-trip tickets (direct), which gives you a free full-sized carry-on bag, complimentary seat assignment at booking and enables you to pool miles together with family members.
