Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through the Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Texans and New Yorkers, here’s your chance to get cheap tickets to Hawaii. Although there’s limited availability, you can fly from Newark (EWR) and Houston (IAH) to Honolulu (HNL) and Lihue (LIH) from $294 round-trip. Those on the West Coast have great options too, with low fares available from Seattle (SEA), San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), Portland (PDX) and San Diego (SAN) — starting at $275 round-trip.

Most fares are in basic economy, but keep in mind you can get around some of the restrictions by holding an airline’s co-branded credit card. Availability from Newark and Houston is scattered in late October and early November, while flights from other cities are available from November through February 2019.

Frustrated that there aren’t low fares from your city? Well, you might want to check out miles and points options to get to Hawaii instead. If you’re looking to do some exploring, check out Get Your Guide for a list of the best activities in Hawaii.

To search, head to Google Flights and enter your origin and destination cities. Scroll through the calendar function to find dates and prices that work for you. Finally, click through to book directly with the airline or through an OTA like Priceline or Expedia.
