Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through the Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Cheap flights from multiple cities in the US to Nairobi, Kenya are now available from just $549 round-trip. Flights are available beginning in early September with some routes available through May 2020. These deals are being offered by multiple carriers including both Sky Team and Star Alliance airlines.

Flights from the US to Africa are typically $900+ round-trip. Additionally, deals like this are rarely available over major holidays, however, some routes feature cheap fares over Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday.

Kenya boasts some of the world's top safaris, including a national park just a short drive from downtown Nairobi. If you prefer to stay in the city center, there are a few points hotels to consider including the Sankara Nairobi and the Nairobi Hilton.

To search, head to Priceline or Expedia.

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either. Our opinions are our own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by our advertising partners.
