Citi is a TPG advertising partner

Citi is targeting Citi Prestige cardholders with new categories for which they can earn 5x points for a limited time. Through March 31, 2018, targeted Prestige cardholders can earn 5x ThankYou points on select categories when they register for the promotion.

TPG reader Kevin J. sent along the targeted email, including the categories for which you can earn 5x points for a limited time: grocery stores, gas stations, drugstores and mass transit and commuter transportation vendors. If you were targeted, you must register your Prestige Card by February 28, 2018, in order to earn 5x points on the bonus categories. The information for the Citi Prestige has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

There's a maximum to how much you can earn with this 5x offer — up to 2,500 points. So, you can only spend up to a combined $500 in the given bonus categories to max out this offer, which isn't very high. This offer expires on March 31, 2018.

This is a surprising — and exciting — offer from Citi for some of its Prestige cardholders. It's not clear how Citi is targeting cardholders for this offer, but if you were targeted you'll have received an email from Citi. As a reminder, the Citi Prestige Card typically earns 3x points on air travel and hotels, 2x points on dining and entertainment and 1x points on all other purchases.

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either. Our opinions are our own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by our advertising partners.
