(The Chase Freedom is no longer open to new applicants)
We're just a few days away from Costco's switch to exclusively accepting Visa cards, and now Chase has shared plans to continue the 5% cash back category on the Chase Freedom card for purchases at wholesale club retailers like Costso, BJ's and Sam's Club through the end of the year. As a reminder, cardholders will earn 5% cash back each quarter on up to $1,500 in combined purchases from these wholesale retailers through the end of 2016.
This extension is great news for cardholders, as the 5% cash back was originally slated to end on June 30, right after Costco's switch to Visa. Right now would be a great time to consider signing up for the Freedom card — it's currently offering $150 cash back after spending $500 within the first three months of account opening. Note that you can choose to transfer your sign-up bonus to 15,000 Ultimate Rewards points instead if you also have a card that earns Ultimate Rewards points like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink Plus cards.
This extension definitely moves the Chase Freedom up on the list of the best cards to use at Costco, as you'll now have more than 10 days to take advantage of this bonus.
