The best credit cards for Amazon purchases
Editor's Note
Whether you're shopping for gifts or restocking your essentials, Amazon is the go-to merchant for many online shoppers. And when you have a Prime membership, almost anything you order can be at your door in two days.
If you're expecting to make some significant Amazon purchases in the coming months and want to earn more rewards for your spending, consider adding a credit card that earns more rewards on those expenses.
When you're deciding on a card for Amazon spending, you'll want to consider earning rates, rewards currencies and which benefits you can leverage.
With all of this in mind, here are the best credit cards for shopping at Amazon.
The best credit cards for Amazon purchases
| Card | Annual fee | Earning rate on Amazon purchases |
|---|---|---|
Prime Visa (see rates and fees) | $0, but you need a Prime membership to get the card | 5% back (plus 10% back or more on a rotating selection of products and categories on Amazon) |
$395 | 2 miles per dollar spent | |
$95 | 2 miles per dollar spent | |
$0 | 1.5% back | |
$0 | 5% back on Amazon purchases through the end of 2025 on up to $1,500 in purchases when you activate |
The information for the Prime Visa and Discover it Cash Back card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Prime Visa
In many cases, the Prime Visa is the best option for Amazon purchases.
Welcome offer: New cardholders can receive a $150 Amazon gift card instantly upon approval. Note, you must pay for a Prime membership ($139 per year) to qualify.

Earning rates:
- 5% back on Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market and travel booked through Chase Travel℠
- 2% back on gas stations, local transit and commuting (including ride-hailing services) and restaurants
- 1% back on all other purchases
Why we like it: The Prime Visa is, appropriately, oriented perfectly toward Amazon spending since it earns cash back at such a high rate on Amazon purchases, with the opportunity to earn upward of 10% back on a rotating selection of certain items and categories.
The rewards you earn on the Prime Visa can be redeemed as cash back, gift cards or travel through Chase Travel.

Capital One Venture X
Consider the Capital One Venture X to earn transferable miles on your Amazon purchases. This card earns 2 miles per dollar spent on everyday purchases — including Amazon.
Welcome offer: Earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.

Earning rates:
- 10 miles per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel
- 5 miles per dollar spent on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel
- 2 miles per dollar spent on all other purchases
Why we like it: The Venture X is a solid all-around travel rewards card.
While you may not want to choose this card solely for Amazon purchases, if you're interested in the other benefits it offers, it's a great choice for its $395 annual fee.
Plus, Capital One miles are valued at 1.85 cents apiece per TPG's November 2025 valuations. This means you'll receive a respectable 3.7% return for your Amazon shopping.

Capital One Venture Rewards
Like its premium sibling, the Capital One Venture Rewards also earns 2 miles per dollar spent on your Amazon purchases, for a lower $95 annual fee.
Welcome offer: Earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first three months from account opening.

THE POINTS GUY
Earning rates:
- 5 miles per dollar spent on car rentals, hotels and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel
- 2 miles per dollar spent on all other purchases
Why we like it: If earning transferable rewards is more your speed, the Venture Rewards is a great choice to collect Capital One miles.
Plus, with a lower annual fee than the Venture X, this could be a great choice if you're interested in keeping costs low, but still want to add some miles for your spending.

Chase Freedom Unlimited
If you're not a Prime subscriber and still want a solid return on your spending, your best bet may be to go with the no-annual-fee Chase Freedom Unlimited.
Welcome offer: Earn a $200 bonus after spending $500 on purchases within the first three months from account opening.

Earning rates:
- 5% back on travel booked through Chase Travel
- 3% back on dining (including takeout and eligible delivery services) and 3% back at drugstores
- 1.5% back on all purchases (including Amazon)
Why we like it: The Freedom Unlimited offers 1.5% back on your Amazon purchases. This may not be as good as the Prime Visa, but it is higher than the standard 1% back you'll receive with many other cards.
However, you can potentially stretch your cash back farther when you pair your Freedom Unlimited with a Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees), Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees) or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (see rates and fees).
If you do, you can convert your Freedom Unlimited rewards into full-fledged transferable Ultimate Rewards points, which are 2.05 cents each based on TPG's November 2025 valuations. This would result in a 3.1% return on your Amazon spending with this card.

Discover it Cash Back
The Prime Visa isn't the only card offering 5% back on Amazon purchases this quarter. The no-annual-fee Discover it Cash Back offers 5% back on rotating categories (up to $1,500 each quarter you activate, then 1% cash back after that), and Amazon is a featured category through the end of 2025.
Welcome offer: While this card doesn't offer a traditional welcome offer, Discover will match all the cash back earned during the first 12 consecutive billing periods that the new account is open. This effectively doubles your earnings on this card in the first year.

Earning rates:
- 5% back on purchases with rotating quarterly merchants each quarter you enroll (such as dining, grocery stores and purchases on Amazon, for example) on up to $1,500 each quarter
- 1% back on all other purchases
Why we like it: With the Discover it Cash Back, you can earn 5% on Amazon purchases this quarter. Plus, this card doesn't require you to be a Prime member — unlike the Prime Visa.
However, while this card is currently great for Amazon purchases, it isn't the best card to use year-round. When Amazon is not a part of the quarterly cash-back bonus category, your purchases will only receive 1% back.

Why you should get a credit card for Amazon purchases
There are multiple cards that rack up rewards while you shop on Amazon. If you're frequently scanning the website or find yourself getting packages delivered often, it makes sense to add one of these cards to your wallet.
Remember, you aren't limited to the Prime Visa if you want to maximize your Amazon shopping. Many cards that earn points and miles, such as the Venture X and Venture Rewards, also net you bonus rewards with Amazon.
If you frequently make purchases with Amazon, we recommend getting a card that'll net you rewards in this specific category.

Bottom line
There are multiple cards that earn bonus rewards on Amazon purchases. Whether you're a cash-back enthusiast or a points and miles maximizer, you have many good options to choose from.
Just remember that every issuer has its own application restrictions to consider. This is especially true if you're intrigued by the Amazon-specific Prime Visa, since it's a Chase card subject to 5/24 restrictions.
But, with multiple cards offering solid welcome bonuses, now could be a great time to apply.
