Amex Offer: Get 20,000 Points for Spending $1,000+ with ANA

Amex Offers are limited-time deals for American Express cardholders, like $200 cash back when spending $1,000 with Delta, $80 back when spending $500 or more at AmexTravel.com, or 10% off your cell phone bill. A valuable new Amex Offer just posted to certain Amex accounts: 20,000 Amex Membership Rewards when you spend $1,000 or more with Japan-based airline ANA.
Just like with the Delta Amex Offer (which ended last Friday), you don’t have to spend all $1,000+ in one transaction. American Express will combine all of your ANA airfare purchases from enrollment through the expiration date (November 26, 2016). Although you have to complete all flight purchases by November 26, you don’t need to complete travel by this date. So, feel free to use this offer to book a getaway next year.
Only airfare purchases made through ANA's US website or through ANA's call center will count toward this spending requirement. ANA flights booked through an online travel agent (i.e., Expedia) won’t count toward the spending goal. Once you meet the $1,000 spending requirement, don't expect to see the 20,000 Membership Reward points anytime soon. Amex only promises that "Additional points will be credited to your Program account within 90 days after 11/26/2016."
How much are 20,000 Membership Reward points worth? According to TPG's latest valuations, Membership Reward points are valued at 1.9 cents each. That means that this offer is worth around $380 — which is 38% back if you spend exactly $1,000. Using our tips, you might be able to get even more value out of these points.
Remember that Amex Offers are targeted, so not every American Express card will be included in this promotion. Unfortunately, this excellent offer seems to be one of the more rare Amex Offers around. We checked around TPG headquarters and found that only the following cards were eligible:
- The Platinum Card® from American Express
- The Business Platinum Card® from American Express OPEN
In order to see if you’ve been targeted — and to enroll in the offer — log in to your AmericanExpress.com account. Scroll down to the “Amex Offers and Benefits” section. You may need to click “Load More” to see the offer. If you have multiple cards linked under the same username/password, note that there’s a limit of one registration per Amex Offer per username/password. So, choose wisely if you have multiple targeted cards.
