New Alaska Airlines Card Offer With Reduced Companion Fare
Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here.
One of the best perks from an airline credit card out there comes from the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature credit card — its annual companion fare. With the benefit, you can get a companion fare from $121 ($99 base fare plus taxes and fees from $22) each account anniversary. And while the benefit used to be allowed exclusively on Alaska Airlines-operated flights, it's since been extended to Virgin America-operated flights.
Now, the carrier has upped the offer on its Visa Signature Card. Beginning May 1, the companion ticket will cost much less than what cardholders are used to paying. As of that date, new cardholders will be able to get the companion fare for the first year for just the taxes and fees on the ticket — so you'll be saving $99. Note that this waived base fare offer is just for the first year of being a cardholder. Every subsequent year will be the standard offer from $121 ($99 base fare plus taxes and fees from $22).
The taxes and fees can vary based on a number of factors, including state or country-specific taxes, a US transportation tax, facility charges and more. Note that while the Virgin America credit card is no longer taking applications, Virgin America employees will begin promoting the Alaska Airlines Card on May 1 — so you can take advantage of this offer through a Virgin America employee at that time.
In addition to the annual companion fare, you'll also earn 3x miles for Alaska and 1x miles on everything else. You'll also get a free checked bag on Alaska flights for you and up to six other passengers on the same reservation. The card has an annual fee of $75 and comes with no foreign transaction fees.
Overall, this is a pretty nice offer on the Alaska Card. If you've been considering signing up for the card, now is the time to do it so you can save $99 on your companion fare.
