Winter Storm Quinn, the Northeast's latest weather scourge, was responsible for nearly half of Wednesday's 2,757 canceled and 2,000 delayed domestic flights.

Following up on this morning's weather forecast, these are the origin airports that were most affected as of 7pm tonight:

  • Newark (EWR): 353 canceled flights (55% of total scheduled); 60 delayed flights (9%)
  • LaGuardia (LGA): 346 canceled flights (58%); 34 delayed flights (5%)
  • Kennedy (JFK): 266 canceled flights (42%); 61 delayed flights (9%)
  • Philadelphia (PHL): 150 canceled flights (29%); 79 delayed flights (15%)
  • Boston Logan (BOS): 137 canceled flights (21%); 43 delayed flights (6%)

Flights inbound to these destination airports also suffered from the effects of the nor'easter:

  • Newark (EWR): 362 canceled flights (56% of total scheduled); 34 delayed flights (5%)
  • LaGuardia (LGA): 359 canceled flights (60%); 32 delayed flights (5%)
  • Kennedy (JFK): 266 canceled flights (41%); 41 delayed flights (6%)
  • Boston Logan (BOS): 191 canceled flights (30%); 37 delayed flights (5%)
  • Philadelphia (PHL): 136 canceled flights (25%); 50 delayed flights (9%)

JetBlue remained Wednesday's biggest airline casualty, with 446 canceled flights (46% of total scheduled) and 74 delayed flights (7%). Regional carriers Republic and Endeavor Air followed close behind with over 300 canceled flights each, while major carriers American and United rounded out the Top 5 list.

Most US airlines have extended their travel waivers for passengers with schedule flexibility. As we mentioned this morning, airlines aren’t responsible for covering your meals or hotels in the case of weather-related delays/cancellations. But, some top credit cards offer flight delay/cancellation insurance that will reimburse you for weather issues, including the Citi Prestige ($500 per passenger for 3+ hour delay), the Chase Sapphire Reserve ($500 per ticket for 6+ hour or overnight delay) and Chase Sapphire Preferred ($500 per ticket for 12+ hour or overnight delay).

As of 7:00 Wednesday evening, these are the travel waivers covering this storm, many of which have been extended from Tuesday's waivers. Notably, Spirit Airlines has not extended its travel waiver timeframe into March 8, as of the time of this post.
