Chase Marriott and United cardholders have a chance to earn double miles/points on flights and stays now through April 15, 2018 thanks to a new promotion. But, the promotion isn’t set up like you might expect.
This crossover promotion offers Marriott cardholders double points on United flights, and United cardholders double miles on Marriott stays. Here’s how the earnings breakdown. First, for United flights purchased directly from United, you’ll earn the following on these Marriott co-branded credit cards:
- Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card: 4x Marriott points (3.6% return based on TPG valuations)
- Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit Card: 4x Marriott points (3.6% return)
For Marriott stays booked directly with Marriott, here’s the earning bonus for United co-branded cards:
- United MileagePlus Club Card: 3x United miles (4.2% return)
- United MileagePlus Club Business Card: 3x United miles (4.2% return)
- United MileagePlus Explorer Card: 2x United miles (2.8% return)
- United MileagePlus Explorer Business Card: 2x United miles (2.8% return)
Don’t worry if you’re not a cardholder yet: You have until the April 1 deadline to get your hands on a card. Then, make sure to register for the promotion before the April 15 cutoff.
If you’re already a cardholder, you’ll have to register before you start booking flights and hotels. To register, find the last four digits of your qualifying card and click through to doublerewards.chasecreditcards.com. Enter your last name, last four digits of your qualifying card and billing ZIP code. Then click Activate Now to register for the promotion.
Even with the bonus, are these the best cards to use during this promotion? Well, that depends on what other cards you have available.
If you have the The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll earn 5x Membership Rewards points on flights booked directly with airlines and prepaid hotels booked through Amex Travel. TPG values Membership Rewards points at 1.9 cents each, providing a 9.5% return which easily bests the options through this promotion.
Similarly, the Chase Sapphire Reserve earns 3x Ultimate Rewards points, which TPG values at 2.1 cents per point. That’s a return of 6.3% per dollar spent, which easily beats any of the returns this promotion would grant. Plus, you’d be covered for trip delay protection, trip cancellation insurance, baggage delay insurance and more.
