Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Delta’s offering cheap flights to the Azores from a few US cities. You can fly with Delta to the beautiful Azores from just $400 round-trip. We’re seeing the cheapest round-trip fares from New York (JFK), which is a nonstop route. Other cheap flights to São Miguel (PDL) depart from Boston (BOS), Atlanta (ATL), Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) — all requiring a stop in New York.

Keep in mind that these fares are in basic economy, however, Delta’s basic economy is the least-restricting of any of the legacy US carriers. With a Delta basic economy ticket, you’ll get a carry-on bag, but you won’t be able to select your seat in advance, upgrade your seat or make any changes to your flights. Check out this post for how to defeat Delta basic economy with a co-branded credit card.

To search, head to Google Flights, and input your origin city and destination of PDL. Then, click through the calendar function and select the dates that work best for you. Click through to book directly with Delta.
