The Chase Freedom‘s current 5% quarterly bonus category covers the widest range of spend the card has ever offered, allowing you to earn the bonus on nearly any everyday purchase.

As a quick refresher, cardholders who activate their Q1 bonus by March 14 will earn 5% cash back on the first $1,500 spent with mobile wallets; on purchases made at gas stations; and on spending with internet, cable and phone service merchants.

What makes this bonus so lucrative is the return on spend using mobile wallets (Android Pay, Apple Pay, Chase Pay and Samsung Pay). Given the broad range of merchants that accept mobile wallets, there’s essentially no limit to what you can earn the bonus on.

Here’s just a sample of some of the retailers you can use mobile wallets at, broken down by the platforms participating in this quarterly bonus.

Samsung Pay:
Almost anywhere consumers can swipe or tap their card, since it’s compatible with almost all point-of-sale systems.

This unlocks the potential to earn 5% back in categories that typically never have bonuses, from pet supply stores to department stores to hardware stores. If in-store mobile wallet acceptance is not as common where you live, you may still be able to use it to make purchases online through sites and apps like Airbnb, Target and Uber. Keep in mind that you won’t get extra rewards for combining categories, so purchasing gas with a mobile wallet will still earn you 5% back.

If you haven’t yet, you can enroll for the Q1 bonus by going to Chase’s website and entering the primary cardholder’s last name, the last four digits of the card number and the billing zip code. While you need to activate the bonus by March 14, you’ll have until March 31 to take advantage of the offer.

In case you missed this quarter’s bonus or already reached the $1,500 cap, know that next quarter’s bonus will be quite flexible as well — 5% back for spending with grocery stores, PayPal and Chase Pay. PayPal can be used to check out at a ton of websites, and although not as widespread as the other major mobile wallets, Chase Pay is accepted at some major retailers like Best Buy, Starbucks and Walmart.

If you don’t already have the Chase Freedom, if you sign up you’ll earn a $150 bonus (in the form of 15,000 Ultimate Rewards points) after you spend $500 in the first three months. With the card, you’ll get 5% cash back on rotating categories every quarter and 1% cash back on all other purchases. The card has no annual fee and is especially attractive for Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders working toward possessing the “Chase quartet.”

Chase Freedom®

It's a stellar cash back card on its own, but when paired with the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred, the Freedom's 5x Category Bonuses let you rack up Chase Ultimate Rewards Points, transferrable to partners or redeemable via the portal.
