United Airlines just announced the schedule for the first flights of the newest member of its fleet: The Boeing 737 MAX 9. The airline plans to add 10 example of the MAX 9 to its fleet this year.

The first five routes will all depart from United’s Houston (IAH) hub on June 7, going to Anchorage (ANC); Austin (AUS); Fort Lauderdale (FLL); Orlando (MCO); and San Diego (SAN) — the IAH-MCO flight will likely be the inaugural since it has the earliest departure time on June 7. Additional MAX 9 routes will be added starting June 29, including service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Honolulu (HNL).

According to the airline, its Boeing 737 MAX 9s feature 179 seats in total across three cabins:

  • 20 first-class seats in a 2-2 configuration
  • 48 in Economy Plus in a 3-3 configuration with 34 inches of pitch
  • 111 economy seats in a 3-3 configuration with at least 30 inches of pitch

All seats will have in-seat power outlets, and first-class seats will feature “smart” details such as AC power plugs, mobile device holders in the tray tables, and tablet/laptop slots. Onboard Wi-Fi will be available for purchase. The MAX 9’s winglets and fuel-efficient engines should result in a quieter ride, more range and less fuel consumption.

If you want to get on board the inaugural flight, you can buy tickets in the economy cabin starting at $194 in coach for a one-way ticket, or $351 for a one-way ticket in first class. Note that United’s site is still showing that it’s operating a 737-900 on the route, but that’s likely because it hasn’t been updated yet.

If you’d rather save your cash, award tickets are available in both economy and first class. Coach will run you 27,500 miles one-way while first costs 50,000 — both tickets come with minimal taxes and fees.

As a reminder, if you need to bolster your United balance, you can transfer points instantly from Chase Ultimate Rewards to United MileagePlus at a 1:1 ratio.
