Update 1/15/2018: It seems that complimentary nights are back and available to book now.

It’s no secret that the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts program can be one of the best and most valuable ways to book a hotel stay. Aside from the usual perks like getting elite-like benefits by booking through the program, FHR has also traditionally offered special offers on some properties, allowing you to get the third, fourth, fifth or sixth night of your stay for free. However, in recent weeks, several TPG readers have written in, noting that the free night benefit hasn’t been showing up as a benefit at any property.

According to American Express, the company is performing scheduled system maintenance on its FHR platform. As a result, complimentary nights through FHR offers are temporarily unavailable — both when booking through the site and over the phone. The good news, however, is that the complimentary night benefit will be returning to the FHR program by next week a spokesperson said — this isn’t a permanent change.

If you’re looking to book a stay at an FHR property, it might be a good idea to wait to do so until the system is completely up and running. That way, if a property is offering a complimentary night, you’ll be able to take advantage. Check back at TPG for when the system is up and running.

As a reminder the Fine Hotels & Resorts program is available to cardholders of the Platinum Card® from American Express, the Business Platinum Card® from American Express and Centurion Card. FHR bookings are typically eligible to earn points and elite credits, so there’s no disadvantage to booking through Amex if you’re getting a good rate.
