Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Several carriers are offering great fares on transcontinental flights this winter. You can fly from several East Coast cities including New York (JFK), Boston (BOS) and Baltimore (BWI) to West Coast cities including Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO) and Las Vegas (LAS) from just $226 round-trip. Most of the flights are available on Delta or JetBlue, but note that the Delta itineraries will be on basic economy, which comes with extra fees, but isn't nearly as restrictive as other carriers' versions of BE. Flights are mostly available from January through March 2018, though that depends on your origin and destination. Start your search on Google Flights, and then you can book directly with the airline.
