How You Can Score 1,500 Free Airline Miles
Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here.
For a limited time, Star Alliance carrier Aegean is giving away 1,500 free miles. Here's how to claim them and why you should care about Aegean's mileage program.
1,500 Free Miles
You'll earn the 1,500 miles in two steps — to earn the first 1,000 miles, all you need to do is sign-up for a new Aegean Miles+Bonus mileage account here. Note that the registration page doesn't say anything about the bonus miles, however, we were able to confirm that you will indeed earn the miles by signing up ourselves. For the remaining 500 miles, just download the Aegean app for Android or iOS and log in by November 16. Something to note about the registration process — you're required to enter your phone number to complete the process, but the option for a US phone number isn't easy to find in the menu. We recommend inputting your number as a Canadian one, as our neighbor to the north employs the same country code for telephone numbers as the US. Your password will need to be a 4-6 digit numerical PIN.
Earning Other Aegean Miles
So now you should have 1,500 miles. On their own, those 1,500 aren't going to get you very far. But, Aegean is a 1:1 transfer partner of Starwood Preferred Guest, meaning you can transfer Starpoints to Aegean. Even better, you'll get 25,000 Aegean miles for transferring 20,000 Starpoints.
If you need more Starpoints, you can apply for the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express or the Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express — which is offering a 35,000 Starpoint welcome bonus for spending $10,000 within the first six months of account opening.
Sweet Spots of Aegean's Program
Centrally located in Greece, Aegean is generous with its definition of Europe — it includes Israel and even North Africa in the same region. That means you can fly Star Alliance partners from the US to anywhere in Europe, Israel and North Africa for just 30,000 miles one-way in economy, 45,000 miles one-way in business and — where applicable — 60,000 miles one-way in first class.
Flights within the North America (excluding Hawaii) cost 12,500 miles one-way in economy and 21,000 miles one-way in business class. That includes flights to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, which are in separate regions for US-based airlines. Intra-Europe flights — including all the way from the British Isles to Israel or North Africa — cost the same 12,500 one-way in economy and 21,000 one-way in business.
And that's just scratching the surface. Check out the full Aegean award chart here.
