Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

We’re in the midst of a price war from the US to Hong Kong (HKG). Hong Kong Airlines is leading the way, launching its transpacific service between the two cities in December and offering an excellent $428 round-trip price on the route. But we’re also seeing great fares on both United Airlines and American out of Texas, New York and California. When airlines compete, travelers win.

For those who might not have a lot of experience with Hong Kong Airlines, it isn’t a fee-heavy carrier. You’ll get free carry-on bags and two free checked bags. Even better, you’ll be flying on a brand new Airbus A350-900. The seat pitch in economy is listed by the airline as being between 31 and 34 inches with seat width at “60 inches for 3 seats.”
