Uber's once again offering its Plus product to riders in New York City, though this time around it's going to work a bit differently than before. The last time you had the chance to purchase an Uber Plus pass, you paid a fee for a certain number of rides that would cost you a flat rate each time until you reached the limit of your package. Now, the rideshare giant is changing it up a bit in NYC — you'll pay the fee for a given number of rides and then you'll receive a discount (it appears that the discount is varied and targeted for specific riders) on each UberPool or UberX ride you take — in my case the offer is $5 off each ride.

Another change from Uber's last pass offering is that now you're able to purchase an unlimited package — but you only have 28 days to score the discounts after you purchase a package so you'd have to be a very frequent Uber rider in order for this to make sense.

Unfortunately, there's a limited quantity of passes available, and it seems that Uber's already sold out of passes in the other locations it was offering them. Note, too, that airport trips are excluded from the discounts.

Also, if you don't already have an Uber account, you can sign up here to receive a $20 credit from TPG. Additionally, be sure to sync a credit card with your Uber account that will earn you the greatest return on your ride, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve for 3x points per dollar on travel or the Amex Platinum card, which offers a $200 annual Uber credit to cardholders.

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either. Our opinions are our own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by our advertising partners.
