United Cancels Transatlantic Flight Due to Fuel Leak
United Airlines was forced to cancel a flight to Venice (VCE) yesterday due to a fuel leak from the aircraft's left wing. The incident happened as Flight 170 was taxiing towards the runway for takeoff at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
A video shot by passenger Rachel E Pas (@rachelEPas) shows a substantial amount of fuel spilling off the Boeing 767-300ER's (N677UA) wing onto the taxiway.
The flight, scheduled to depart at 6:55pm, was forced to return to the gate. Passengers were put in a hotel overnight while United attempted to rebook passengers on other flights.
The airline described the incident as a "fuel leak", but didn't provide any further details. Thankfully, it seems like the damage wasn't too serious — the aircraft is back in service today as Flight 61 from EWR to Honolulu (HNL).
