Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Looking to test out Emirates' latest fifth freedom route from New York (EWR) to Athens, Greece (ATH)? The carrier is offering discounted fares on the route for two people — just $975 round-trip in economy, which works out to about $488 for each person. If you're considering booking, you'll be pleased to know that the ATH-EWR leg does not require you to follow the electronics ban requirements, so you'll be allowed to use your laptop and larger electronic devices for the duration of the trip.

As part of this fare sale, which is only good for travel for two people, the eligible travel days are from August 20-December 18, 2017 and from December 27, 2017-February 28, 2018. The sale sends on April 17, 2017 at 11:59pm ET, and there's a minimum stay of four days and a maximum stay of six months. In addition to the economy fares shown below, business class is also part of the sale — from $4,971 round-trip for two people.
