Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Fares from the US to Europe are on sale on both low-cost carriers such as WOW and LEVEL, and full-service carriers like Swiss and Air Canada. Flights are available from Boston (BOS) and San Francisco (SFO) to Reykjavik (KEF) on WOW or from Oakland (OAK) to Barcelona (BCN) on LEVEL, IAG’s new low-cost carrier. Prices start at $230 round-trip but since these are low-cost carriers, you’ll pay extra for a large carry-on bag or to choose your seat.

If you want to visit Denmark, you can fly from New York (LGA) and Miami (MIA) to Copenhagen (CPH) from just $359 round-trip on full-service carriers — meaning you’ll get a complimentary checked bag, meals and the ability to choose your seat at booking. Make sure you use Google Flights to find your desired dates as availability — especially on the discount airlines — is scattered.

Airlines: Air Canada, LEVEL, Swiss and WOW Air
Routes: BOS/LGA/MIA/OAK/SFO to BCN/CPH/KEF
Cost: $230+ round-trip in economy
