Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using the American Express Platinum Card, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

A trip to Thailand is even more appealing thanks to cheap flights available from both coasts in October and November 2017. Star Alliance partners EVA Air and United as well as SkyTeam member China Airlines are offering flights from New York (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) to Bangkok (BKK) from $565 round-trip. To make sure you get the best price for your trip, we advise that you search on Google Flights before booking with the airline or through Orbitz or Expedia.

From Bangkok, you can be on the beach in Phuket, Koh Samui or elsewhere in Southeast Asia in just a couple of hours. Flights within the region are typically very inexpensive, making Bangkok a great hub for Southeast Asia travel.
