Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

We haven’t seen a deal to Taiwan in several months, but this is a really good one. If you’re on the West Coast or can get yourself there, Japan Airlines (JAL) is currently selling flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Taipei (TPE) for as low as $482 round-trip, with just one short stop in Osaka, Japan.

Even better, you’ll be flying on Japan Airlines’ 787 Dreamliner between Los Angeles and Osaka. TPG Contributor Katie Genter reviewed JAL’s 787-8 last year and described it as the best economy hard product she’s experienced, writing that “the combination of wide, comfortable, high-pitch seats with the better pressurization of the 787 and the consistently high-quality service of JAL makes its 787-8 a winner.”

There’s a smattering of availability in May, but the bulk of these fares are in the fall, with tons of departure dates on the weekdays in September, October and November. In most cases there’s a Saturday night stay requirement but you don’t need any tricks to get these airfares, so just use Google Flights to find the dates you want, then book on Orbitz, Expedia or directly with the airline itself.
