Travelers hoping to utilize their SkyMiles for award flights now have an excellent opportunity to see the US and Canada at a low price. Delta just published its list of Holiday Award Deals for the winter season, with some awards starting at just 5,000 miles one-way.
The deals include routes through Delta’s major hubs in Atlanta, Detroit and Seattle. To take advantage of these discounted award rates, travelers must book their flights by Friday, January 13, 2017, for travel between January 27 and July 31, 2017.
One-way deals available for less than 5,000 SkyMiles include main cabin flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) and New York (JFK) and Seattle (SEA) and Victoria, British Columbia (YYJ). Awards between Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) are also available for 5,500 miles each way.
Other highlights include awards between New York-LaGuardia (LGA) and Orlando (MCO) for 10,000 SkyMiles one-way, and Seattle (SEA) to Kona (KOA) for 20,000 miles one-way. Flights in Delta Comfort+ start at 9,000 SkyMiles one-way, up to 27,000 SkyMiles in each direction.
As with most promotions, there are some blackout dates. The advertised deal rates aren’t available on any routes from February 16 through 20, as well as April 13 through 17. Additional blackout dates are scheduled between select markets on specific dates, including Boston and Orlando between April 12 and 23, Detroit and Fort Lauderdale from March 30 to April 4 and Maui and Seattle from June 10 to 17 (among other dates).
If you’re planning to use your SkyMiles for a getaway over the next several months, this promotion offers plenty of opportunity. Those looking to earn extra Delta miles may want to consider utilizing the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express, which is offering a bonus of 30,000 SkyMiles after you spend $1,000 in the first three months and a $50 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your card within the first three months. However, time is running out to get away for cheap; you have to book by January 13 to lock in these rates, so act soon if you’re interested and can lock in your spring or summer travel plans early.
