We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency, such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.
American Airlines has great fares for summer travel from Washington, D.C. (DCA) to Paris (CDG) from $483 round-trip. Although we've seen cheaper fares to Europe recently, what makes this deal great is the wide open availability during the summer months, which is peak season for Americans traveling to Europe and when round-trip flights usually cost $1,000 or more. These prices are valid for departures from March through September 2017 — but note that all of the itineraries seem to require a short layover. You can use Google Flights to search for your desired dates and then complete booking on American's site.
