IHG today announced the terms of its Accelerate 2016 bonus offer, and as the chain has done in the past, offers seem to differ from one customer to the next. My particular offer gives me four months to earn 55,000 bonus IHG points, worth $385 based on TPG’s latest monthly valuations. That’s a ton of value from a regular stay promo — it makes Starwood’s Q1 offering even less appealing.
Accelerate 2016 runs from January 1 through April 30, 2016 and stays at most IHG hotels (including Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and more) qualify for the promo. It appears that you must register for the promotion in advance of your first qualifying stay, however you can’t see your targeted offer until you register, so there’s no reason not to complete that process right now.
As part of my particular offer, I can earn a total of 55,000 bonus points after completing four tasks. The full breakdown is below, but the Achievement Bonus is definitely the most notable, offering 28,600 bonus points after I stay five nights, including one booked using Points and Cash. Considering the brands that fall under IHG’s umbrella, this could be worth a mattress run. It’s unclear what criteria IHG uses to determine offers — I’m an IHG Spire Elite member with two stays in 2015.
Now while I have a lot of travel planned during the promotion period, most of my stays are booked with Hyatt, since I wanted to maximize my new Diamond status and use up my first four confirmed suite upgrades before they expire. I don’t think I’ll be canceling any of those stays, so if I want to take advantage of Accelerate 2016 I’ll either need to book another trip or schedule a mattress run, if that ends up being worthwhile.
IHG’s 2016 promo should stack with other bonuses, including the Priceless Surprises promotion, which even lets you earn thousands of points without completing a single stay.
